Markon Updates Highways Maintenance Fleet With Three New Somerford Screed Vehicles
Markon Ltd, one of Scotland’s leading contractors for road marking, road planing and surfacing solutions, has updated its highways maintenance fleet with three new screed vehicles. Supplied by Somerford Equipment, the UK’s leading provider of road marking vehicles and equipment, they were ordered as part of a planned replacement programme and enable Markon to deliver a reliable and resilient road marking service in the harshest road conditions nationwide.
According to Carl Olufsen, Transport Manager at Markon: “Having a modern, up to date fleet enhances Markon’s professional image and enables road crews to consistently meet the highest standards expected by our customers. In fact, we have already received comments from customers about how good the vehicles look and the speed at which jobs can now be completed.”
Each vehicle has been built on a 14 ton Volvo chassis. They have been fitted with refurbished pre-heaters and donkey engines taken from the vehicles being replaced along with new high performance gas burners and compressors. The latest safety features have been included to protect road crews around the clock. They include an integrated pedestrian side step well to improve rear access along with railings around the vehicle to meet all health and safety guidelines for working at height.

Markon’s total fleet currently comprises 75 vehicles, 28 of which have been supplied by Somerford Equipment for a wide range of applications including line marking, screeding, anti-skid surfacing, road drying, imprinting and supplies.
