London Borough Of Enfield Deploys Next Generation Digital ANPR System From Videalert

The London Borough of Enfield is deploying the latest digital ANPR system from Videalert as part of a major ongoing contract with OpenView Security Solutions Limited, the council’s incumbent provider of CCTV installation and support services and one of the UK’s largest independent security system integrators. The system has already been installed at eight locations, where it has replaced the existing legacy NDI Recognition Systems equipment, and will be extended to a further fourteen locations across the borough as part of a total replacement and upgrade strategy.

According to Alan Gardner, Enfield Public Safety Centre Manager – Community Safety Team at the London Borough of Enfield: “We liked the fact that Videalert was different from the traditional suppliers of single point CCTV solutions by providing a single digital platform that can be easily expanded to deliver even higher levels of functionality. It has given us a digital migration path to upgrade our old analogue cameras to the latest IP platform and later to full digital cameras that will enhance our crime prevention activities. I also understand the platform has the potential to run other traffic management applications that, if taken up collectively, may achieve further cost savings and efficiencies whilst providing a simple system expansion pathway to deliver a range of enhanced services of value to the local community.”

This future-proofed platform uses the latest IP-based cameras and has been deployed at Enfield’s Public Safety Centre depot. It uses sophisticated capture methods to deliver accurate vehicle plate read data to Police ANPR databases (BOFII and the latest Metropolitan Police Service database standard) for crime prevention as well as to traffic management systems (UTMC) to help reduce congestion.

Enfield will achieve significant cost savings through the ability to simultaneously run a wide range of additional traffic management and community safety applications without having to procure multiple legacy point solutions. This could include the real time capture of vehicle information for improved predictability of average journey times and incident detection, utilising the same camera assets.

Terry Cox, Sales & Marketing Director at OpenView Security Solutions, commented that: “Videalert enables local authorities to do more with less and replace multiple systems from different suppliers with a single digital platform that reduces infrastructure costs and complexity. The platform provides a perfect solution as we continue to upgrade control rooms from analogue to digital and enables easy sharing of data to multiple stakeholders to enhance operational efficiency.”

“OpenView Security Solutions Limited is a longstanding partner of Videalert and has achieved Gold Partner status in acknowledgement of attaining the highest level of expertise in the installation and support of digital traffic management solutions and a track record of successful deployments across the UK,” added Videalert. “Together, we are already engaged on a number of similar projects with other local authorities to replace outdated legacy point solutions enabling them to exploit the benefits of the Videalert Digital Platform.”
